Gente Rock guitarist Mike Scaccia is Dead

Rock guitarist Mike Scaccia, who made waves while playing for the likes of Ministry and Rigor Mortis, died early Sunday after collapsing from a seizure onstage at The Rail Club in Fort Worth. Mike was 47. Mike was performing a special happy 50th birthday bash for a fellow guitarist from the band known as Rigor Mortis.

ʻʻRigor Mortis’ vocalist, Bruce Corbitt, posted on Facebook, ʻʻMy brother is gone! The only reason I am who I am is because of this man. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t even be in a band.ʼʼ RIP Mike ʻʻthe greatest guitar player I ever knew. I’m proud to say that I was always Mike Scaccia’s biggest fan, and always will be.ʼʼ ʼʼ

Despite attempts at resuscitation, both at the scene and at the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth failed, Scaccia was pronounced dead about 12:30 a.m. at the hospital in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Apparently Mike had requested that a stage technician for the strobe lights to be turned off during the concert, after which he apparently suffered a seizure and then collapsed

Jeff Liles, who books concerts at the Kessler Theater in Dallas, wrote that Scaccia was ʻʻone of the most original and influential musicians to ever come from North Texas.ʼʼ

Liles noted that the band Rigor Mortis, which was formed in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the early 1980s, ʻʻultimately bridged the gap between thrash metal and what would become industrial music.ʼʼ

Scaccia began performing with techno poppers semi-rockers industrial fit band called Ministry in the late 1980s, He played on the group’s platinum-selling Psalm 69 album.
